FAQ:
What is the difference between an Aqua Smart metered controlled water softener and an Aqua Smart timered controlled water softener?
Meter Controlled Softener:- This Machine will only perform a regenoration based upon your water consumption. .ie (unit will regenerate after 1600 litres of water has been used) this unit is recommened where the water usage changes alot like a holiday home.
Timer controlled softener:- This Machine will only regenerate on a present day. ie (if you set it to regenerate every 3 days it will regenerate every 3 days regardless of the amount of water that is used).
Which unit is best for me?
If your water usage changes from week to week then the Aquamsmart metered unit would be best if your water usage remians the same a Aquasmart timered would be good to use.
Can this unit be installed outside?
Yes this unit can be installed outside. If installing out side insert 2 self taping screws into cover and screw into main brine tank.
How does it work?
The AquaSmart 300 Series unit regenerates on a pre-set day at 2 oclock in the morning. Each time it regenerates it will produce 1600 litres of softened water.
The unit has a capacity to produce up-to 11200 litres of softened water per week. (this is an approx value it may change depending on your water hardness).
Where will i save money?
Softened water provides real cost savings in service, maintenance and replacement of water heaters, dishwashers, washing machines and showers and also extends their life. It will improve the efficiency of hot water and heating systems-just 1.6mm (1/16") of scale build-up in heating systems will cause a 12% loss in heating efficiency. Softened water can also remove existing scale deposits in hot water and heating systems as well as the scale around taps, in shower heads and stains on baths and basins.
How does the water softener work?
The idea behind a water softener is simple. The calcium and magnesium ions in the water are replaced with sodium ions. Since sodium does not precipitate out in pipes or react badly with soap, both of the problems of hard water are eliminated. To do the ion replacement, the water in the house runs through a bed of small plastic beads. The beads are covered with sodium ions. As the water flows past the sodium ions, they swap places with the calcium and magnesium ions. Eventually, the beads contain nothing but calcium and magnesium and no sodium, and at this point they stop softening the water. It is then time to regenerate the beads or with brine (salt) which must be added to the salt tank every 1-2 months depending on water usage.
Regeneration involves soaking the beads in a stream of sodium ions. Salt is sodium chloride, so the water softener mixes up a very strong brine solution and flushes it through the zeolite or beads (this is why you load up a water softener with salt). The strong brine displaces all of the calcium and magnesium that has built up in the beads and replaces it again with sodium. The remaining brine plus all of the calcium and magnesium is flushed out through a drain pipe.
